Achieving bright, clear skin is something that many men and women strive for. At Skin Deep Laser MD we can safely and comfortably treat a variety of skin concerns in all skin types while removing dead skin cells and debris from your skin surface to create smooth, healthier looking skin..
Why Do a Peel?
Skin cells are in a constant cycle of renewal with the older cells being pushed to the outer layers to eventually slough off. In our teens, 20s and early 30s this renewal process happens every 28-32 days. As we age the process slows, allowing dead and damaged skin cells to build up on the surface creating a dull appearance. Cell build-up also occurs within the pores on oilier skin types who are prone to acne and breakouts.
Peels are essential to overall skin health; they encourage the process of shedding older skin cells, bringing newer, healthier cells to the surface so skin looks brighter and feels smoother. Peels also speed the process of cell renewal and, depending on the ingredients chosen for your peel, provide many other nutrients to nourish, hydrate and treat multiple skin issues .
- Reduce fine lines and wrinkles under the eyes and around the mouth
- Treat hyperpigmentation: age spots, freckles and dark spots caused by sun damage, birth control pills, hormones and aging
- Treat acne and certain types of rosacea
- Improve the appearance of scarring
- Improve the look, texture and feel of skin
- Stimulate the body’s natural healing process to continue improving the skin over time
Dr. Riehm believes in a progressive rather than aggressive approach to peels. Research has proven that you can get better long-term results with multiple gentle peels rather than with one aggressive peel, with the bonus of not having the down-time, pain and risk associated with aggressive chemical peels. Dr. Riehm has done extensive research and chosen the safest, most effective, medically proven dermaceutical ingredients to achieve the best results for all skin issues and skin types.
What should I expect from a peel or mask?
Many patients see results after just one peel, although typically Dr. Riehm suggests a series of four to six peels that are given two to four weeks apart to achieve maximum results. Because peels are essential for maintaining overall skin health, we offer a peel membership program to make regular, monthly peels an easy part of your healthy skin care regimen.
Having a peel is painful and makes your face look red, flaky and unsightly until the peeling is done.
PCA SKIN peels typically causes little to no discomfort, minimal visible exfoliation and your skin will be glowing and healthy-looking following treatment.
I don’t have time to take off work and “hide out” while my face peels
Unless you want a deep, aggressive peel, you will not have any “down-time”. You might have some light flaking similar to what you might see after a mild sunburn. If you do peels regularly, you may not even see flaking at all.
My face gets red and stings when I apply products at home, so my skin is too sensitive for a chemical peel.
Our wide range of peels offer benefits for all skin types – even the most sensitive. Your PCA SKIN Certified Professional will customize a treatment specifically for your individual concerns and sensitivity.
Peels are only for people with severe skin concerns, like acne, hyperpigmentation and deep wrinkles.
While peels do effectively treat all skin concerns, they are also great options for maintaining skin health, repairing signs of aging and preventing further signs of aging.
What are Microdermabrasion and Dermaplaning?
They offer another non-invasive solution to resurfacing your skin. While chemical peels and masks use light plant acids to remove dead cells from the surface of your skin via chemical exfoliation, microderabrasion and dermaplaning are methods to physically remove old cells.
Dermaplaning is manual exfoliation using a 10 gauge scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer of dulling dead cells in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion. An added benefit that many patients (especially blondes and redheads who are not candidates for laser hair removal) love is that it also removes fine vellus hair (peach fuzz).
For microdermabrasion we use the ClearFX to gently spray the skin with aluminum oxide crystals to remove the top layer of dead, built-up cells. The cells are then extracted from the skin using vacuum suction, revealing a fresh, smooth surface.
During your consultation, Dr. Riehm and our certified, trained staff will assess your skin condition and cosmetic goals to determine which treatment is right for you and your skincare needs. We will create a customized treatment plan to help you achieve your desired results.
