What is the ICON MaxG™ IPL Photofacial?

- Age spots, freckles, sun damage, brown pigmentation
- Red pigmentation, spider veins, rosacea
- Visible blood vessels
- Port wine stains
- Moderate fine lines and wrinkles
- Dull skin tone
How Does it Work?
During an IPL photofacial, beams of low energy light are aimed at the patient’s desired treatment area. This light passes through the uppermost layers of the skin and is absorbed by concentrated regions of hemoglobin and melanin, two components of the skin responsible for the development of visible blood vessels, pigmented lesions, and other skin concerns. As these structures absorb this low energy light, they begin to break up and dissipate, improving the appearance of the skin imperfections they caused.
This light also triggers the body’s natural process of healing, increasing blood flow to the face and spurring the creation of collagen, a structural protein within the skin. This improves the overall tightness, tone, and texture of the skin over time.
What Can I Expect from Treatment?
While IPL photofacials can be somewhat uncomfortable, they are generally well-tolerated by patients. The sensation of treatment is often likened to the feeling of warm pinpricks or a rubber band snapping against the skin. The amount of time each photofacial treatment session takes depends on each patient’s specific cosmetic goals and the size of their desired treatment area.
Following treatment, patients typically experience no period of significant downtime. We recommend that patients undergo between three and five treatments, each spaced four weeks apart for optimal results.
IPL photofacial is an excellent way for patients to improve the appearance of skin imperfections and the signs of aging without having to undergo an invasive treatment with extensive downtime.
