Dermal fillers are typically gels that are injected beneath the skin. Many fillers are made from a substance called hyaluronic acid that your body makes naturally. Fillers are designed to provide volume and fullness to sunken areas and to camouflage the appearance of wrinkles. Dermal fillers are offered in a variety of forms. Juvederm®

This is one of the most popular dermal filler families available. The various Juvederm products are used on moderate-to-severe lines and folds, particularly around the mouth and nose. One form of Juvederm can also be used to plump up the cheeks. Results last 6 months to 2 years depending on the formula used.
 

Revanesse® Versa™

This filler has been around in Canada and Europe for a while, and is now available in the United States. It’s excellent for plumping up the lips and treating nasolabial folds, and has a minimal amount of temporary swelling in comparison to similar products. Results last up to 12 months.
 

Radiesse®

This filler, made from calcium hydroxylapatite, helps stimulate the skin to produce new collagen, the substance that gives your skin support. By enhancing the natural protein in your skin, you can enjoy improved, revitalized structure for up to 2 years.
 

Belotero Balance®

This filler comes in the form of a smooth gel, and is injected into your facial tissue to treat deep and laugh lines around the nose and mouth. The results can last 6 months or more.
 

Types of injectables 

At Skin Deep Laser MD, in addition to dermal fillers, we also offer the neurotoxin injectables BOTOX® and Xeomin®. These treatments use a fine needle and are injected into certain muscles. By relaxing your facial muscles, your skin smoothes out and relaxes to reduce wrinkles and lines, including crow’s feet, frown lines between the brows, and forehead furrows. Neurotoxins can also be used to treat lines across the bridge of the nose, or “bunny lines”,  a “gummy smile”, a wrinkly chin known as “peau d’ orange”, (“peel of the orange”), “smoker’s lines”, jaw clenching and overactive masseter muscles, and more.

Botox and fillers are both effective for the purpose of erasing wrinkles and lines, but the ingredients are slightly different. You should let Dr. Riehm know if you have any known allergies as you work with her to choose a treatment that’s right for you.
